The Kearney Whitewater Association started from a grassroots group of local citizens that believed in the recreation potential of the Kearney Canal & Tailrace.
Today the Association is comprised of members with many different attributes; enthusiastic paddlers, both novice and advanced, community members looking to improve the Tailrace and Turkey Creek, as well as regional members that enjoy paddling with others throughout the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains!
Kearney Whitewater worked in cooperation with the City of Kearney and Nebraska Public Power District to help bring the Kearney Water Trail into existence in 2016. Two public access landings were created with funds raised by members and the regional paddling community.
- Promote and encourage the recreational use of rivers, creeks, canals, lakes and other navigable bodies of water by non-motorized craft.
Promote the development of whitewater facilities and activities in the Kearney Area
- Promote the development of safe paddling skills through instruction, training, and participation in paddling sports and floating events
- Promote conservation of waterways by practicing conservation as a group, by cooperating with local conservation organizations and by communicating the association’s concerns to governmental authorities and to the public.
